So, I am sitting down at a table with my mom, and I said to her “what would you prefer to receive, a notepad or a notebook?” She looks at me like I am a crazy person, and than asks me the question, “aren’t they the same thing”? Well, here I am to break that myth… Notepads are like the sample images on the left below. Like notebooks, they can come in many different sizes, however they do not have a front and a back, more often that not, they just have a solid cardboard backer, and the pages are glued on one side of the pad, so you can tear off each page as you need it. A notepad, can also be sticky on part of it so you can use the notes to place as reminders for yourself without needing tape.
But, on the right, take a look at this notebook! Like I said, they can come in many different sizes, and shapes if you really need. But they will have a front and a back, and the covers, can be attached by several different options of bindings. You can do a coil, (like in the image below) perfect bound (like a novel) or stapled (like most magazines). None of these types of bindings are better than the other, it is just preference. However with a notebook, you can have a pen loop on it like the black loop seen on the cover, so you can always keep a pen with you.
So when making up your mind as to what you like best, there is no right or wrong answer. It is personal preference, where you are using it, or how you are using it.
What works best for your needs??
